The Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) is found in wooded areas in Australia and New Guinea and on some of the Indonesian islands. Artist Ria Winters shares the beauty of this highly intelligent and charismatic bird in this original oil painting. With its large yellow crest and beautiful white feathers, the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo is well known in aviculture. Unfortunately, its beauty and intelligence make it a coveted pet. Although protected in Indonesia, this parrot is still commonly trapped for the illegal wildlife trade. It is not a protected species in Australia, therefore culls continue to occur.
