The Red-Crowned Amazon (Amazona viridigenalis), also known as the Green-Cheeked Amazon, is a highly social parrot native to northeastern Mexico, as featured in this original oil painting by Ria Winters. While its population has increased in Los Angeles, California, the Red-Crowned Amazon is sadly Endangered in the wild, with a decreasing population of only a few thousand birds. The main threats to this species' survival are the illegal export for the pet trade and the destruction of their natural habitat.
