I have been painting birds since childhood, and as a professional artist since 1968, spending lengthy periods in the field. I have studied all Australian Parrots in the field except the Night Parrot, which has only recently been re-discovered, and the extinct Paradise Parrot. My work has been seen in a number of exhibitions, most notably (a) to coincide with the publication of my book, Australian Birds: a portfolio of paintings and drawings; and (b) to coincide with the opening of the Bird of Prey facility at Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary, Victoria, Australia, including a book of my paintings of raptors, Where Eagle Fly. I have also been selected for the prestigious Leigh Yawkey Birds in Art Exhibition, Wisconson, USA, and many exhibitions by wildlife art societies in Australia, including the Holmes Art Prize for Traditional Bird Art, once as Guest Artist. Other publications include Field Guides to Australian Birds, for which I have painted every Australian species at least three times, and ten or so books of photographs. I also supplied paintings for the multi-volume Handbook of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds.
