
The Paradise Parrot is now presumed to be extinct as there have been no reliable sightings for seventy years. Obviously habitat destruction played a part in its demise as a number of other seed-eating birds such as the Star Finch, Black-throated Finch and Squatter Pigeon have disappeared from the parrot’s former range. Feral cats were probably a factor as well. It is one of three related parrots that nest in terrestrial termite mounds, such as shown in my painting
